This workshop is designed to give you the basics for building your own
Manila theme. Building a Manila theme is the process of taking
your design and making it work with Manila so that other teachers or administrators can use the
design you have created. Although we will work with the design some, we
will not focus on it. Rather, we will take an existing design and get
it to work with Manila. Below is an overview of what we will
cover. Clicking on the links below or to the left will take you
to the appropriate lesson module.
Requirements - You will need a
computer with Internet access, a manila theme account separate from
your personal site, a web page editor (Netscape Composer), and a
graphics editor (Photoshop Elements).
Theme Design - You must first have a design. We will work with Macromedia Dreamweaver to create a simple design to use for our theme.
New Site - It is best to have a
Manila site dedicated just for your new theme. Each Manila server
will be a little different and you may need to contact your Manila
Administrator for more information.
Theme Images - You will most
likely have images that you want to use in your theme. These
images need to be available on a server for all to use.
Build Site Theme- We will log in to the newly created site and modify the preferences to get the theme we want.
Review - Even after all of this
work, you may still have to tweak your site. We will look in to
how the new theme works with multiple browsers and how it handles
different situations others might use in their site.
Install - Lastly, we will save the new theme and install it on the server for everyone to use.
